The Lord's Day - Sabbath
The Lord's Day, or Christian Sabbath, is one of the most important and often neglected doctrines in the church today. Reformed Christians have historically held to the perpetual obligation of the fourth commandment as it applies to the Christian Sunday.
The Fourth Commandment
"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work..." (Exodus 20:8-10). The fourth commandment is one of the Ten Commandments and as such is part of the moral law of God which is binding upon all people in all ages.
The Christian Sabbath
The Westminster Confession of Faith teaches that the Sabbath was changed from the last day of the week to the first day of the week at the resurrection of Christ. The first day of the week — Sunday — is now the Christian Sabbath, or the Lord's Day. This is the day that Christians are to set apart for the public and private worship of God.
The Lord's Day is to be kept holy by resting from worldly employments and recreations, and by engaging in the public and private exercises of worship throughout the whole day. It is a day of rest, worship, and spiritual refreshment for the people of God.
Why This Matters
In an age when the Lord's Day is increasingly treated as just another day for recreation and personal pursuits, it is vital that Christians recover the biblical and confessional teaching on the Sabbath. The proper observance of the Lord's Day is a means of grace that God has appointed for the spiritual growth and refreshment of His people.
This ministry seeks to teach the pastors and churches of Ukraine the importance of the Lord's Day and its proper observance, so that they and their congregations might enjoy the blessings that God has promised to those who honor His holy day.
